The Medfield Transfer Station hosts a variety of Special Collection events throughout the year for waste-ban items, including electronics, hazardous waste, and Styrofoam. These events offer residents a chance to properly dispose of these materials.
Mattress and Box Spring Disposal
To reduce statewide trash disposal, MassDEP has added mattresses and box springs to the list of waste-ban items, effective November 1, 2022. If you need to dispose of a mattress or box spring, you have the following options:
- Donate the mattress at a local recycling center
- Ask your retailer to dispose of the old mattress when purchasing a new one
- Bring the mattress to the Transfer Station, visit the gate attendant to make your payment, and discard the mattress in the designated mattress container. The gate attendant will assist with the process.
There is a $50.00 fee per unit(split box spring are two units) for disposal, payable by check to the Town of Medfield at the Transfer Station.
Please note: As of July 1, 2025, the cost for mattress disposal will increase to $50 per mattress(Piece).
For more information about mattress disposal or if you have any questions, please contact the DPW Office at (508) 906-3003.
