MAY 2025 - DWIGHT DERBY HOUSE - SIDING REPAIRS
Thanks to an earmark for historical buildings from the State, the Dwight Derby house was able to get some repair work completed. At the rear of the building -- the section known as the 'Carriage House' was in desperate need of residing. The bottom framing had been exposed to the elements and was deteriorating. Thanks to this funding, the damaged pieces of wood were replaced, and one of the entire exterior walls was re-shingled. A few cracked floorboards on the main level of the house were repaired, and the wobbly hearthstones in the dining room were reset to make access to the house safer.
JUNE 2025 - KINGSBURY GRIST MILL - ROOF REPLACEMENT
Thanks to an earmark for historical buildings from the State, the Kingsbury Grist Mill was able to secure the remaining funds to replace the roof. The red cedar shingle roof was long overdue for replacement. The building has been exposed to several chronic roof leaks over the past few years. With the help of this funding, the shingles and underlayment were fully-replaced. The new roof keeps the inside of the building dry, and helps protect the structure long term. The new shingles will weather with time and blend in with the aesthetic of the building.
June 2025 - HISTORICAL SOCIETY - BUILDING IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS
Thanks to an earmark for historical buildings from the State, the Medfield Historical Society was able to complete various improvement projects to their building. The historical society building has a long history of water infiltration issues -- so that was the focus of their projects. They were able to replace the bulkhead doors (which were badly damaged), install a new gutter system (whereas before there was no roof water management system), and a sump pump (to deal with any water table or standing water issues in the basement). With leftover funds, they were able to upgrade bathroom fixtures, and purchase flooring for the basement to be installed at a later date.

September 2025 - METACOMET Park - TENNIS COURT RECONSTRUCTION PROJECT
In July of 2025 the Metacomet Park tennis courts project began with the reclamation of the existing asphalt. This material was then 'recycled' and used as part of the new compacted subbase for the new court system. This project included a full reconstruction, from subgrade, to asphalt, surfacing, nets and posts. A fiberglass underlayment system was utilized as part of the court surfacing to extend the lifecycle of the court and reduce eventual surface cracking (which is unavoidable with asphalt tennis courts). Much of the existing fence was reused as a cost savings for the project. The fence can be fully-replaced at a later date without impacting the new courts. The project was recently completed and opened for play on September 22nd, 2025.
